Darkness abides where rocks smash into one another. In reality, the distance between these rollicking juggernauts is immense and the likely hood of collision is merely infrequent. Distance makes objects harder to see over these vast distances, and yet, there is always that slim, coincidental chance that one's eyes and tracking device happens to be aimed in just the right direction at just the right time to catch that curious glint off the barest of reflective surfaces at just the right time to spot it even from such major distances. Such was the case for Jim-Bob Gellispee, one rather unbeknown asteroid miner, who one day made the discovery of his life, much to his chagrin. Too bad for him, as this event will be that which drives him to destitution and despair as his life crumbles around him. For our heroes, it could prove to be the opportunity of a lifetime. It has been two months since their last paying job and the enthusiasm over being well paid and enjoying the life style that that has brought them is wearing off as the number of digits in their respective bank accounts descends into oblivion. No word has come down from their Patron, and the tension is beginning to tell in their interactions with one another. |

The man's eyes glared at Xavier, as he considered his options. The noise from upstairs faded, and a dead stillness permeated the bar. He looked sideways to see what the others were doing before making his move. "One!" With that, he grabbed Xavier's arm and using it as leverage, swung his knee up hard into Xavier's side, and twisted the arm outward, breaking his grip. From across the room, Alex hefted the unconscious miner, short and stocky as he was, into a fireman's carry. "Gunfire and explosions. We need to move, NOW!" |

With a loud roar of annoyance Xavier lunged at the man trying to flee and tackled the man from behind into a wall where the brute raised his arm up again and punched at the man's spine between his ribs, Wrong answer! Looking down he checked to see if the man was still moving or not from that hard punch from a brass knuckled fist. |

Erideth kept a gun trained on the man, but didn't risk pulling the trigger with Xavier so close. She just grumbled and gave a glance to Alex, slipping up from behind the desk and saying, Should we take 'im out so he don't shoot us in the back? ...see...always thinking...maybe violently. |

The man goes down under a pummeling by Xavier, while guarded by Erideth. One final slam of a door above seems to indicate the vacating of the bar. Alex struggles with the miner while moving toward the stairwell. "Erideth, lead the way out. Make sure we're clear. Leave him. He down. Xavier, grab that box by the bed. Might have more of those coins and who knows what else of value." |

Xavier nodded to Alex with a smirk, Sure boss. and with that the large man twisted the attacker's neck in a motion that doesn't seem normal before reaching over and grabbing the box that Alex pointed out and anything else of worth. |

Erideth grumbled something under her breath, but she had a smile on her face. She got to kick up some fun if there was anyone up there to kick. She went first, putting one gun away and slipping out her combat knife instead into a reverse grip that she held along side her gun. That left her ready to handle all comers as she stalked up the stairs. At the top, she paused a moment to kick open the door, first swinging her gun and blade towards the side it opened on, then the other in a sweep if there was no one there. |

Erideth lead the group up the stairs, the door at the top hung loose on its hinges, badly damaged from the grenade. Two bodies lie just outside the blast damage, amid plenty of debris and clutter. Alex carried the unconscious miner up next, glancing around the damaged bar as Xavier brought up the rear. There were several other bodies scatter around the bar, including the barkeep, sprawled behind what was left of the bar, a shotgun in one hand. Broken bottles and glassware covered the floor around him. The low, distant murmur of a siren Whee-Whahs from the south. |

Looking around the large man sighed, Oh gorram hell... he quickly grabbed the bartender's shotgun in one arm and then helped Alex carry the miner, I'm thinkin' this be a good time for an exit. |

Erideth nodded her head and took a faster pace through the quiet bar. Her gun lowered and her knife went back into it's sheath as she pointed out, We gotta get outta here. Lets go that way though... ...pointing opposite where the sirens were coming from. |

Sebastian followed the group up the stairs and on reaching the bar, stumbled when he saw the still figure of the barkeep. He reached down and slid something out of the man's vest pocket before straightening and pointing toward a side exit. "We can go that way. Side street." As the group slip out the side door, they find themselves in a dead end alley, which feeds out toward the main street. Cautiously proceeding, they come to the mouth of the alley, and look out. There, sitting across the street from the main bar entrance is two black, heavy vans. Two men stand next to one of them, keeping an eye on the main entrance. The group have a chance to slip out of the alley and around the corner without being spotted. ![]()

The approaching hover flew just over the rooftops, the red-blue-yellow flashing lights strobing colors against the nearby buildings. Behind the patrol car a rescue hover followed along, similar lights blinking against the dark of night. The two men turned and entered their vehicle just as Sabastian motioned the others past a parked panel van, and into the darkness beyond. The hum of the black van across the road brings that vehicle to life and it slides off in the opposite direction, moments before the patrol car settles onto the ground directly in front of the demolished bar. Sabastian holds the crew in place for a moment before they proceed away from the scene, Alex carrying the unconscious miner. A short time later, they arrive at the Jenny, and Sabastian keys the access lock, gaining entrance into the ship's aft hold. He directs Alex to move the miner to the med bay to let him recover there. The others can unpack their gear and assemble in the common area to discuss their next step. |
